Highlights from Our 2024 Ofsted Report

In our 2024 Ofsted inspection, we were proud to be recognised as a school where pupils are happy, safe and deeply connected to our community. Ofsted described Chestnut Grove as “innovative and outward looking,” and celebrated the strength of our school values.

The report praised our ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum, which goes beyond national expectations and enables our pupils to achieve highly. They felt that teachers bring strong subject expertise to the classroom, ensuring lessons are well-sequenced and misconceptions are swiftly addressed.

“Leaders have high expectations of learning and behaviour. Pupils, and students in the sixth form, study an ambitious curriculum and achieve highly, responding well to leaders’ high expectations.”

The inspectors were impressed with the support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They recognised that SEND pupils are fully included in school life and achieve well, with many sharing how their confidence and enjoyment of learning have grown during their time with us.

“Pupils, including those with SEND, are effusive about the way the school has helped them develop.”

Ofsted recognised the centrality of reading and literacy at Chestnut Grove. They praised the fact that our curriculum is designed to build vocabulary, develop fluency and nurture a genuine love of reading.

Ofsted noted our calm, respectful and inclusive environment, where pupils behave with courtesy and kindness.

“This is a kind school, where diversity is celebrated.”

“Its vision is global, incorporating a variety of cultural traditions.”

Ofsted recognised that, through our strong personal development programme, pupils learn about healthy relationships, democracy and staying safe, while also preparing for the next stages of education, employment or training.

Our leadership and governance were recognised as highly effective: we set high expectations, support our staff’s well-being and work closely with our community to ensure everyone feels heard and valued.

Finally, Ofsted confirmed that our safeguarding arrangements are effective, and that our pupils trust us to care for them, challenge them and broaden their horizons.
